Excellent Cookbook! If you have cooked a while and I have, I imagine you can find most recipes you want from many sources。 Why, should you buy another cookbook? My reason is because this one is different。 I make good dishes, but they are too similar, again and again。 So, this cookbook offers a Pop, something everyone will wonder what you added。 It might be a Sweet Breakfast Dish, but with some added Rosemary。 Love Chocolate Chip Cookies。 I do, too, but have never made them with Zucchini! Comfort food is excellent, but you try a 30 minute Mac and Cheese w/Pumpkin Purée and Gruyère Cheese。 Going a bit exotic, bet you have made Chicken Tikka Marsala。 I’ve made this dish many times。 I have never added Applesauce, though。 So, this is Fun to try different ideas。 Cook for your family, including younger picky eaters or have a Elegant Dinner Party。 If you love to cook, and I do, it’s great to add some zest。 I recommend this cookbook for cooks who want to make smashing foods, that your average person will love。 That’s why we cook。 Thank you NetGalley, Kelly Senyei, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for an ARC of this book。 Happy Cooking! 。。。more

I LOVE cookbooks and read them like a novel。 The Secret Ingredient Cookbook by Kelly Senyei is a refreshing assortment of family-friendly recipes that include a clever and often surprising secret ingredient。 It’s beautifully photographed but unfortunately not all recipes are pictured。I could almost smell Noni’s Soft Pretzel Knots with Everything Bagel Seasoning。 The Caprese Antipasto Salad with fries mozzarella or the Kale Panzanella with Lemon Vinaigrette made with croissants are just a few of I LOVE cookbooks and read them like a novel。 The Secret Ingredient Cookbook by Kelly Senyei is a refreshing assortment of family-friendly recipes that include a clever and often surprising secret ingredient。 It’s beautifully photographed but unfortunately not all recipes are pictured。I could almost smell Noni’s Soft Pretzel Knots with Everything Bagel Seasoning。 The Caprese Antipasto Salad with fries mozzarella or the Kale Panzanella with Lemon Vinaigrette made with croissants are just a few of the 125 luscious recipes。 Thank you NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for this eARC copy in exchange for an honest opinion。 。。。more

If you enjoy making white-person appropriated cultural foods, then you'll enjoy this book。Dishes include:"Soupy Thai Chicken Noodles" (tom kha gai & chicken noodle soup "joining forces" with the secret ingredient being red curry paste, gasp)"Crispy Crab Rangoon", because she craves "Chinese takeout" regularly, and her goal for "re-creating these Americanized favorites at home is simplified, fresh, and fail-safe recipes that will have you ditching the delivery for good"。 But "the unusual addition If you enjoy making white-person appropriated cultural foods, then you'll enjoy this book。Dishes include:"Soupy Thai Chicken Noodles" (tom kha gai & chicken noodle soup "joining forces" with the secret ingredient being red curry paste, gasp)"Crispy Crab Rangoon", because she craves "Chinese takeout" regularly, and her goal for "re-creating these Americanized favorites at home is simplified, fresh, and fail-safe recipes that will have you ditching the delivery for good"。 But "the unusual addition of curry powder catapults this recipe across TWO countries, blending Chinese and Indian flavors for the ultimate takeout-fakeout snack"。Brussels sprouts, that take inspiration from her local "Japanese farmhouse-style restaurant in Texas" - spoiler alert: the secret ingredient is fish sauce。 Those are only three examples, and if you haven't seen your country yet, don't worry - it's in there。 Other dishes besides the multi-cultural ones are just simple American dishes like waffles, bacon-wrapped dates, wedge salad with blue cheese dressing, 30 minute mac and cheese with the addition of pumpkin puree, etc。。。so nothing difficult at all, and nothing you can't find in any other basic cookbook or online。 This is just a bunch of very basic, non-innovative recipes with some simple ingredient like vanilla bean replacing vanilla extract for the "secret ingredient"。 Save your time and money。I received the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

I have found a cookbook that will keep on giving。 Perfect gift for budding chefs or for apartment dwelling college students。 Senyei's secret ingredients are not earth shattering。 They're subtle。 I chose to make tomato soup with the secret ingredient being beans。 Great recipe and nice flavor。 If I were to make it over again I would cook the beans to make them softer。 Next, I made the ravioli lasagna。 Comes together easily and feeds a ton。 The secret ingredient 。。。。 ravioli! This is a set of slightly healthier recipes for things my family already knows and loves。 The recipes are clearly written and look simple enough for any home chef。 And the photos are excellent! I've made several recipes from this book already including Shake 'n' Bacon Bites (amazing), Fruit Salad with Lemon Dressing (to which I added poppyseeds and her secret ingredient), Caramelized Onion Dip (the secret ingredient really makes it exceptional), Pan-Fried Feta with Lemon-Honey Dressing (oh, my!), Super Greens Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette (again, that special ingredient really made it pop) and Caramelized Brussels Sprouts。 Wow。 Tomorrow's lunch will be Garlicky Cheese Bread。Senyei suggests adding strawberry jam to egg sandwiches。。。I really like jam with savoury egg dishes。 I've made pancakes with fizzy water but not what is suggested here。 Berry Breakfast Pastries with cardamom (underrated in my opinion) would be fabulous。 Can't wait to make the Bacon-Wrapped Dates with that special something。 The Sheet Pan Barbecue Meatballs are also on my list。。。looking forward to adding that bit of zip! Tonight we are having the Sweet and Sour Cucumber Salad with the secret ingredient we just happen to have on hand from Christmas along with the Beef Bulgogi Lettuce Wraps。 OK。 The 30-Minute Macaroni and Cheese looks even better when you see the ingredients。 These recipes aren't posh, nor are nearly all the ingredients。 Experimenting with cooking with the goal to enhance is so gratifying and fun so this book is my wheelhouse。 The recipes are not daunting so I recommend this book for anyone, including new cooks。 Experienced cooks can learn as well。 I really enjoyed some "aha!" moments。My sincere thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this wondrously inspiring book in exchange for an honest review。 Much appreciated。 。。。more
